The Emulation Lodge of Improvement Bicentenary Year Annual Festival 2023

by Brian Page

On Friday, 24th February 2023, the RW Anthony Howlett-Bolton OBE, the Provincial Grand Master for Berkshire, will Preside at the Emulation Lodge of Improvement’s Annual Festival.

For those unfamiliar with that lodge, it meets in Freemasons Hall on Great Queen Street in Covent Garden each Friday at 6:15 pm; the regular meetings are open to all Master Masons, and no booking is necessary to attend. If you are not known to the lodge, you will need to produce your Grand Lodge certificate, and you will be “proved” by one of the Preceptors before you are permitted to enter. There was a nominal entry fee of 50p on my last visit. A MM apron will be provided for you, and the dress code is smart casual.

Each of the four craft ceremonies is worked on a four-week rotation, usually followed by parts of one or other of The Lectures. All the work is strictly Emulation Ritual, performed to a very high standard. There is no Festive Board after the regular weekly meetings.

This Bicentenary year will have our own RW PGM presiding on the 24th February, when the ELOI will present four parts of The Lectures. For this meeting booking is required and on this occasion there is a dinner. Tickets cost £65 including dinner or £10 for the meeting only. Online bookings can be made HERE.
