Presentation of £3000 to St Luke’s Cancer Centre

by Communications Team

W Bro Bruce McKenzie-Boyle’s wife, Tina, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in April 2021, and following 8 hours of surgery, 6 months of chemotherapy and 15 months of targeted therapy of infusions of Bevacizumab and oral Olaparib, she was declared all clear in December 2023. Tina was treated at St Lukes Cancer Centre, attached to the Royal Surrey County Hospital at Guildford, and she will ever be immensely grateful for the caring and professional way that they looked after her over the two and a half years of her treatment which ended when she rang the bell in reception to a round of applause from staff and patients.

Having just come out of the chair of Public Schools Installed Masters Lodge No.9077, they asked Bruce what Charity he would like to support. Needless to say, he suggested St Luke’s Cancer Centre so that Tina and he could thank the team in some small part for the excellent treatment she received. PSIM Lodge volunteered a donation £1000. Bruce then asked his mother lodge, Anglo-American No.2191, of which he was Secretary, for a contribution – and another donation of £1000 was added to the fund. These both being London Lodges, he was sure that Berkshire would be similarly generous, and when he was installed in the chair of Gourmet Lodge No.10008, on being asked what Charity, he again mentioned St Lukes, and the Gourmet Lodge donated another £1000.

Tina went to St Lukes and presented the cheques for £3000 to the team that saved her life, from left to right:

Dr Adrian Franklin – Consultant Oncologist for Brachytherapy & Carcinoma
Fiona Thompson – Lead Macmillan Nurse
Bruce & Tina
Mr Simon Butler-Manuel – Consultant Gynaecological Surgeon and Oncologist
Jenny Drumm – Macmillan Nurse
Sadly, Lindsey Allan, Oncology Dietician, and Sarah Pierce, Macmillan Nurse, were unable to be there when the cheques were presented, but Tina is immensely grateful to all of the team.

You may notice that the presentation cheque, which was a consolidation of three separate cheques, is dated, but it took some time to agree a date when most of the medical team could be available.
