LSG Wellesley and the 95th

by Neill Rhodes

Three members of the Provincial Lodge Support Team assisted Wellesley Lodge No. 1899 at their regular meeting on Monday 10th October where W Bro. Tim Fox acting as Tyler, W Bro. Phillip Damant as JW and W Bro. Owen Doe as JD. And what a fabulous occasion it was.

W Bro. Jem Whitmore VLO to Wellesley Lodge was delighted to present on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master a certificate to W Bro Peter Dayton to mark his 50 years in Freemasonry, Bro Peter was Master of Wellesley Lodge when it marked its centenary year and he is hoping he will be considered for the Office in 9 years’ time when Wellesley attain its 150th anniversary. Bro. Peter is currently Chaplin of the Lodge.

Following the conclusion of Lodge business, the members and guests welcomed 16 boys and girls and 4 group leaders from the 95th Reading Scout Group who gave a detailed presentation of their recent visit to Kandersteg Switzerland, where they joined groups from all over the world including France, Holland, and Spain to name but a few all taking part in activities such as Hiking, walking, tobogganing and the noble scouting art of finger fighting!

Wellesley members gave a wonderful donation of £1,000 which enabled the group from Reading 95th to attend the event along with other Scout groups from all over Europe, which like so many events had been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The informative presentation included photographs of the beautiful scenery and events from the trip and the enthusiasm of the experience was evident from those presenting. The group were also introduced to cheese making which apparently was quite scrummy and large quantity of Swiss Cheese made its way home.

Following the presentation, the group were treated to a tour of the main temple at Sindlesham and then joined the members of Wellesley in the Hooton bar for a well-earned refreshing glass of lemonade…………………

Working with the Lodge Support Team brings many benefits, to both our team members and importantly to our fellow brethren and as this meeting proves we don’t just provide assistance of ceremonial value.
