Help for the Maidenhead Air Cadets

by Paul Thomsett

For a number of years, the Maidenhead Squadron of the RAF Air Cadets has suffered from IT issues as each unit must acquire their own IT, which is not always easy to do with limited budget. After an approach to the Berkshire Masonic Charity the Squadron has been awarded a grant that has enabled them to purchase two new laptops.

Flight Lieutenant Paul Bennett the Officer Commanding the Squadron said “Not all of our cadets have access to computers at home, and as the training becomes more browser and Internet based, they need access to the RAFAC learning materials and online exams. The two additional laptops which were purchased thanks to the generous donation from the Berkshire Masonic Charity will enable more ad-hoc access and portability than our current desktops. More cadets will be able to do online learning or take their tests at the same time, across multiple subjects. It will also provide us with longevity of IT with the previous items being three years or more older, and some stability for our learning platform. Cadets are now using the new laptops to develop their skills and learning, and this will help them gain qualifications and potentially assist with their chosen career paths.”
