My Cancer My Choices have over 60 volunteers who help people cope with the symptoms of cancer. They provide complementary therapy and holistic treatments, such as acupuncture, massage, and reflexology, that aim to complement traditional medicine.
The charity has received a grant of £1,200 from Berkshire Freemasons via the Berkshire Masonic Charity, to help run a mindfulness course.
Victoria Latchford of the charity said “My introduction to Mindfulness came in 2016, as the co-founder and volunteer CEO of My Cancer My choices. I knew about mindfulness but had not really experienced it. One of the many things you experience as a person who has had cancer is the fear of the cancer coming back. It is something I have heard time and time again from the many people we have seen in the charity over the years, and this is certainly a feeling I had myself. I embarked on the mindfulness course with an open mind, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best things I have ever done for my health. I am a real advocate for its inclusion in our services. I would describe Mindfulness as exercise for the mind, a little like reigning in a wild horse. Mindfulness is the practice of focusing your attention on the present moment and accepting it without judgement. The course teaches you all manner of practical tips and practices to support your mental health, resilience, and wellbeing.

I would like to say I am delighted that the Berkshire Masons have donated this grant to support our mindfulness courses next year. This is a gift for all the people who will benefit from the course and the effects are really life lasting and significant. Our thanks to all that have given this grant to support our work.”
