A great day at Sandmartins

by Tim Sherwood

Our first golf day of the season, held at Sandmartins Golf Club raised £750 for the Berkshire 2023 Festival: thank you for your generosity.  It was a lovely sunny day and forty golfers enjoyed themselves but none more so than the winners!

The winners of the Berkshire Festival Trophy were a team from Etonian St John who narrowly pipped the second team from Pillars of Friendship on count back.  Both teams amassed 121 points and could only be separated by the points on the last nine holes.  Any congratulations to the team of Mark Hayes; Tony Horwood: San Hussein: and David Goodman.

The masonic golfers in the field were also competing for the Colin Hayes Memorial Cup.  Again, this was a closely fought affair with Jim Wilson score 39 points overcoming Ken Ramsden who scored 37 points. All enjoyed the course and hospitality at Sandmartins and look forward to returning here next year.  The competition will change slightly as it will be for a new Trophy as the Berkshire Festival Trophy will be retired, however, the Colin Hayes Memorial Cup will still be up for grabs

Our next event, The Centenary golf day at Bearwood Lakes

Our next golf day is a celebration of 100 years since the Berkshire Province Masonic Golf Society was started.  This will be held at Bearwood Lakes in Wokingham on Thursday 18th May, 2023.

I walked around the course today and it is living up to its reputation as one of the top courses in Berkshire.  This will be a great but fair challenge of your golfing skills and is open to masons and their guests.  It will be a team event and there should be at least one mason in each team.  Guests can either be male or female golfers, the only restriction is on handicaps: the course would prefer a maximum handicap of 36.

The cost for the event is complicated,  the society will be subsidising it based on your membership over the last two years.  The cost for guests will be £165 which also includes a small subsidy too! Please use the sign up google form below as all the costs are set out there. We are, however, under pressure from the club to pay two prior to the event happening so, if you want to play please complete the forms and pay as soon as possible.
