Dear Brethren, we are all experiencing difficult and different times due to the covid19 pandemic.
Forgetting our ceremonies and ritual learning for a moment we know as Freemasons our duties are simply to help others less fortunate then ourselves. However, we also have responsibilities to look after our loved ones and indeed ourselves. The pandemic has shown that there are not only serious health issues out there but also many financial difficulties.
The role of the Lodge Almoner has to be effective during these strange times, keeping in touch with members and providing pastoral care are probably the most important.
The daily Government briefings and the BBC and ITV news desks are sharing data with the nation, which I’m sure you agree does get confusing at times. However, the one message that is consistent is that there will be job losses nationally and worldwide. There are many thousands of people, including large numbers of Freemasons who are being furloughed and this will continue for some time to come. Unfortunately there will be members who lose their jobs. This I’m sure will have an impact on our communities and our fraternity.
The message is clear Brethren, don’t suffer in silence. As Provincial Almoner I’m here to help and support you. I would like to recommend some support groups who are partners with the Masonic Charitable Foundation that you may wish to use.
