Alfred the Great is a small, friendly lodge, meeting on the first Monday in October through to our installation in March, we do not meet in January, with two Lodges of Instruction per month from October to April. We meet in the market town of Wantage, at the foot of the Berkshire Downs, and near the White Horse of Uffington. King Alfred The Great was born in Wantage, hence the name of the lodge.
Each meeting is followed by the festive board, which is much appreciated by members and guests alike for the quality of the food.
Alfred the Great was founded in 1975 and will celebrate 50 years in 2025. As well as lodge meetings a number of social events for family and friends are held each year. Friendship, enjoyment and charity are our driving force.
Each year we hope to conduct the three Craft ceremonies – that is the First, Second and Third degree. Membership applications are welcome to s8617@berkspgl.org.uk both existing masons and new members looking to the fraternity. Freemasonry in general and our Lodge in particular believe we demonstrate the principles of kindness, honesty, fairness, tolerance and integrity.
