This lodge is also known as Engineers. It is in Sindlesham and was founded in 1968.
Meetings: Held at the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham, Wokingham, on the first Monday in November, March, April and the second Monday in January and September.
During the 1960s Reg Sollitt, an ex-sergeant in the Grenadier Guards, holder of the Military Medal and WW2 veteran ran the Cranbourne Tower pub, situated in Ascot. He also had a business interest in an engineering company and was generally well known within local engineering circles.
A number of these engineers who happened to be masons frequented the pub on a regular basis. They along with masons from various other lodges who all knew one another decided to form a school of improvement. This was initially held in the pub and occasionally at Path Engineering’s Ascot works. The eventual venue chosen was the Station Hotel in Ascot. Reg Sollitt was the Preceptor and his good friend Doug Charlesworth acted as secretary. Other members including Pat Nicholls, Jim McComb, Bill Morton, Hal Petrie and Robert Forsythe.
After a while it was decided that a petition should be submitted to Provincial Grand Lodge to form a new lodge. The Name “Engineers Lodge” was chosen and given the profession of most of its founders and first officers it was very apt and an obvious choice. The petition was granted and Engineers Lodge No 8226 was consecrated on Saturday 7th of September 1968 at the Masonic Hall on Greyfriars Road in Reading. After many decades The Engineers Lodge has gone from strength to strength and on Monday the 10th of September 2018 saw the celebration of 50 years with the installation of Keith Sollitt as Worshipful Master. We are looking forward to the next fifty years.
We see ourselves as a friendly welcoming lodge and famous for our post LOI drinks and interesting conversations in the bar; so please if you see us do join us. We also enjoy welcoming visitors and have five meetings throughout the masonic year.
