Upcoming Meetings
Temple Pillars Lodge No 6740 was consecrated on 3rd December 1948, its origins go back towards the end of World War 2 when four Reading Masons met to form what was called a “practice Lodge of Master Masons”.
As the numbers of enthusiasts increased discussions about forming a Lodge increased until the Lodge was consecrated in 1948.
The Lodge meetings were originally held above “Parslow & Sons, “Bakers in West Street Reading, after several moves ranging from £The Granby” Public House & Greyfriars Masonic Centre, the Lodge eventually moved to the Masonic Centre at Mole Road, Sindlesham in 1969.
The Lodge Banner was designed by W Bro S G Clacy and presented to the Lodge on 4th March 1960.This is still in use today.
The Lodge originally met 6 times a year but we now meet 4 times on the last Friday in January, April & first Friday in October & December.
Following the Installation meeting in January, a recent tradition started by W Bro Peter Oakley is that the Festive Board is “Burns Supper “complete with Haggis, Neeps & Tatties and Address to the Haggis presented by W Bro Alan Dishington.
The Lodge has recently achieved the Gold award during the Festival 2023.
The Lodge currently has 16 Members ranging from Company Director to Carpenter. With a broad age band.
Before our Lodge of Instruction, we usually meet in the Bar at Sindlesham for an informal social sometimes including a bar meal.
Our recent candidates in Temple pillars have come through the Provincial Recruitment team. After contact initially by our Secretary we will meet them over a drink in the bar, we will meet over several months with most of the Brethren meeting the Candidate so that we get to know each other before preparing for an Initiation Ceremony .
