Upcoming Meetings
Portcullis Lodge meets in Wallingford and was founded in 1948.
Portcullis lodge is the daughter lodge of St Hilda Lodge no 1887, most of the 20 founder members were Past Masters of St Hilda. Portcullis was formed to assist Berkshire Masonry keep up with the rapid increase in memberships after world War ll. Men returning from the war were seeking to continue the camaraderie that they had found in the services, which freemasonry offered.
The consecration meeting was held on the 14th September 1948 at 3.30pm with over 90 masons present, the consecration officer was the then Provincial Grand Master RWBro C.R.I. Nicholl, the first Master was WBro P.C.A. Slade a Past Master of St Hilda. the first candidate to be initiated into Portcullis was Mr. Douglas C Hatt, Solicitor.
Portcullis membership averages around 35 members, mostly living within 10 miles radius of Wallingford. we promote ourselves as a very friendly lodge, socializing outside of freemasonry and involving partners on as many of these events where possible. Portcullis has supported many local charity’s in and around Wallingford, along with special requests of support to those in need.
Portcullis thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you are interested in becoming involved in this wonderful organization, feel free to email our lodge secretary, who will arrange an informal meet up over a possible beer. s6672@berkspgl.org
