Loddon Lodge was founded in 1910 and, although meeting these days at Wokingham Masonic Centre, has always had a strong connection with the nearby village of Wargrave.
We meet on the 3rd Wednesday in January, March and October and the third Thursday in November and February. The January meeting is regarded as the “hottest ticket in Berkshire” because it is always run as a Burns night. The “gravy” is particularly rich that evening & only matched by the Fellowship for which we are renowned.
We have a rich history as one of Berkshire’s longest enduring Craft Lodges, we number a VC as well as a knight of the realm and a Provincial Grand Master of Berkshire among our distinguished ancestors. Loddon Lodge has always supported charities & institutions local to us, by involvement as well as fund raising. At our Centenary we presented a large quantity of the now rare “Loddon Lily” – our emblem commemorating our Founders’ local connections – to the local council to help revive this individual plant.
Our charitable activities are fully focused on supporting local good causes and, as a by-product, raise the positive profile of Wokingham-based Freemasonry.
Social events are held throughout the year where our Wives, Partners, Family and non-masonic friends join us and where, together with our regular meetings, we raise funds for charity by holding raffles etc..
We strongly believe that it is and always has been an honour and a privilege to be a Freemason and the Lodge whole heartedly embraces the tenets and principles of Freemasonry which we feel are just as relevant today as they were when Freemasonry was founded over 300 years ago. We also feel that in today’s modern Britain there is no other Institution other than Freemasonry that offers men the same opportunities to positively develop their character and serve their local community..
Our ambition is to further develop the Lodge environment into one in which we can lead and inspire men of all ages and backgrounds. To enable and encourage them to aspire to live their lives by the very highest Masonic ideals fully promoted by the Lodge. Integrity, Friendship, Respect, Charity form the basis of teaching the Masonic virtues of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. Aiming at all times to endeavour to ‘Make Good Men Better’ . We want men from all walks of life, loyal to Britain, it’s age old traditions and timeless values, including those of fair play, chivalry and gentlemanly behaviour, who are eager to embrace these ideals. Above all, men who prize honour and virtue above the external advantages of rank and fortune.
