The Morland Lodge 3066 was founded in October 1904 by ex-service Brethren who had recently returned to England after the end of the Boer War and wished to meet in their hometown of Reading. It was named after the then Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro John Thornhill Morland. The Lodge’s long and illustrious history is borne witness by the Morland memorial clock dating from 1946 which is now displayed at Sindlesham in the Berkshire Suite lodge room.
The Lodge prides itself on the quality of its Masonic ritual and we are fortunate to have a distinguished group of experienced Masons who can pass their knowledge on to the newer members. Each December, the highlight of the Lodge’s calendar takes place with a recreation of the 15th century Boars Head Ceremony during which a boar’s head, bedecked with herbs, is paraded around the dining tables to a rousing chorus of the Boars Head Carol prior to an evening of festive food and carol singing. In addition to meetings, the Lodge holds various social events during the year, recently including a Hog Roast during Summer, welcoming friends and families, and also meals at local restaurants to invite prospective candidates to join the group in an informal setting.
We are keen to attract both joining and new members, please contact the Secretary, via email at s3066@berkspgl.org.uk so we can address any any of your questions regarding joining freemasonry in general and the Morland Lodge in particular.
Meetings: Held at the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham, Wokingham, on the third Wednesday in September (installation), October, December, March and April, and holds regular Lodges of Instruction where learning of ritual take place twice a month on Wednesday evenings.
