Upcoming Meetings

Ascot Lodge No 2460 was consecrated on the 25th March 1893 at the Royal Ascot Hotel. The Lodge was typical of many so-called Recreational Lodges founded at this period, when gentlemen from the City wished to practice their Masonry during the Summer Period. On early Summonses, a prominent feature was the time of the most convenient train from Waterloo!

Relations between the Lodge and the Management of the Royal Hotel were not always harmonious. Matters came to a head in 1907, when there was no Lodge dinner at the June and September Meetings. A Special Meeting was held in the Grand Stand at Ascot on the 26th October, to consider:

“That the place of the Meeting of the Ascot Lodge be forthwith removed to the Grand Stand Ascot.

Moderation, however, prevailed, and a compromise solution was reached with the Royal Hotel Management.

In 1916, the Royal Hotel became the Regional Headquarters of the Royal Flying Corps. The Lodge applied for and was granted a Dispensation to hold their Meetings at the Imperial Restaurant in Regent Street, London for the duration of the war.

During the Second World War, apart from a short interlude in the autumn of 1939 when the Temple at the Royal Hotel was taken over by the Royal Horse Guards as a barracks, the Lodge continued to meet without incident at the Royal Hotel throughout the war.

In 1964 the relationship between the Lodge and the Royal Hotel came to an end and lodge meetings were moved to the Station Hotel, Ascot.

In 1970 the Lodge moved one final time, to the newly established Berkshire Masonic Centre at Sindlesham Court, where it continues to meet to this day.
