Upcoming Meetings
Kendrick Lodge is a place where Freemasons, old and new, can enjoy their hobby with passion and fun. We are committed to excellence in everything we do, but we also know how to have a good time.
This is a Lodge that values the traditions and principles of Freemasonry, Kendrick Lodge members are serious about their Masonic work (ritual) and try hard to commit this to memory, learning pieces of written material off by heart is not always easy, but we help each other in a light-hearted and good-mannered way. We also enjoy and take seriously the charitable aspects of being a Freemason. Furthermore, we have a strong sense of brotherhood and camaraderie, and we try to support each other, not only in the Lodge but also in our personal lives when called on.
Kendrick Lodge has a long and rich history, dating back to the late 1800s. It was founded by members of two other Reading Lodges, Reading Lodge of Union and Grey Friars Lodge. The name Kendrick comes from a prominent Reading family that was involved in the textile industry and philanthropy in the 16th and 17th centuries. John Kendrick, one of the most famous members of this family, established several charitable trusts to help the poor and needy in Reading. His legacy lives on in the Kendrick Girls School. There was also a boys’ school, (originally known as Kendrick Boys’), but this eventually merged, into what is now Reading Boy’s School, which were both founded by the Charity Commissioners using his funds.
Today, Kendrick Lodge meets at Sindlesham, the Home of Berkshire Freemasonry. The Lodge meets four times a year, on the third Thursday of February, April, October and December. The Lodge also has a Lodge of Instruction, where members practice and learn more about the Masonic rituals and ceremonies. The Lodge of Instruction meets on the first Monday of each month, except August, and there is also a Rehearsal on the Monday before each Lodge meeting. Kendrick Lodge is always happy to welcome new members and visitors who share their interest in Freemasonry and their desire to make a positive difference in the world.
If you are looking for a small and friendly Lodge where you can take part in various activities and events, you might want to consider joining Kendrick Lodge. We have about 20 members who are always ready to welcome new and existing Masons. We like to have fun and socialize, so we organize things like pub lunches, curry nights, and visits to other Lodges and Masonic Centres. We also have a varied programme of ceremonies and lectures that will enrich your Masonic knowledge and experience. Being a relatively small Lodge, it is the ideal size where you can take on the opportunities of an active role(s) very quickly and become a valued member of our Lodge. Visits to other Lodges and other Masonic Centres are also a regular occurrence, and we make every effort to offer a varied and interesting programme.
Kendrick Lodge is a great place to learn and grow as a Freemason, and an individual outside of Freemasonry, you will suddenly not be afraid to give speeches or talk in public. You will find a supportive and cheerful atmosphere where you can make lasting friendships and connections. Our Lodge Secretary, Gerry, and other members will be happy to answer any questions you might have about Freemasonry and Kendrick Lodge. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you are interested. We hope to hear from you soon!
