Ellington Lodge is one of the oldest Lodges in Berkshire. Originally the meetings were held in Maidenhead town centre but later moved to the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Maidenhead Room, Sindlesham. Many of the Lodge members are from Maidenhead and surrounding areas but some travel from Wiltshire, Dorset and other counties but all are closely connected to Maidenhead in various ways – for example, farmers, doctors, gardeners, police officers, accountants, logistics, scientists in fact all walks of life. The Lodge meets five times a year on the 4th Thursday of January, February, March, October, and November.
Ellington according to the Domesday Book was a small Anglo-Saxon settlement later known as South Ellington and eventually after many years became known as Maidenhythe which is recorded in 1296 Manorial Rolls. However, the town grew and became known as Maidenhead. By the 18th Century Maidenhead was a busy and thriving coaching town. In 1649 King Charles I met his children for the final time in the Greyhound Inn before his execution. In 1894 the town became its own entity with Bray and Cookham splitting away.
It was in 1875 that Ellington Lodge was consecrated – no doubt named after the founding history of Maidenhead. The Lodge has deep connections with the town and although not meeting there nowadays the connection remains strong. The Lodge celebrates its 150th Anniversary in November 2025.
Ellington Lodge has numerous ‘daughter’ Lodges in the area. These Lodges meet in Windsor, Beaconsfield, Wokingham, and Sindlesham.
We welcome all men with similar charitable thoughts as us into our Lodge. If you are interested, please, make contact with our Secretary who will catch up with you for a general chat.

Meetings: Held at the Berkshire Masonic Centre, Sindlesham, Wokingham, on the fourth Thursday in January, February, March, October and November (Installation).
Ellingon 150th Anniversary
The 150th Anniversary and Installation Meeting of Ellington Lodge was held at Sindlesham on Monday 10th November 2025.
Opened by WBro Les Canham WM and the Sesquicentennial Thanksgiving was led by RWBro Anthony Howlett-Bolton OBE, PGM, together with his Provincial Officers. There were numerous Grand Officers and Acting Provincial Grand Officers and guests present.
Following WBro Les being Proclaimed as Worshipful Master for another year we had an amazing meeting that highlighted the obvious achievement by Ellington Lodge which was Consecrated on this day in 1875 in Maidenhead.
The history of the Lodge as produced by the Secretary was given to all the attendees and referred to by the Provincial Grand Chaplain in his wonderful Oration.
There are a few copies available still.
Some 75 sat down for the Festive Board (Roast beef) during which the usual Masonic Toasts were observed but with an added Toast to the Founders of the Lodge who were remembered in Lodge.
Ellington is now a small Lodge in number but hopes to thrive for another 150 years – if interested in joining please make contact.’
